Early Life and Rise to Fame

Chris Simms was born in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, on August 29, 1980. His dad, Phil Simms, is the Super Bowl XXI MVP, who competed in the NFL for the New York Giants. Similarly, his older brother, Matt Simms, is a retired professional football quarterback.

Simms attended Ramapo High School, where he actively played football and basketball. During high school days, he received All-State honors twice. USA Today also named him the National Offensive Player of the Year in 1998.

After an incredible collegiate career, he attended the University of Texas in 1999. In his freshman year, he competed as the backup to former player Major Applewhite. Chris didn’t get a chance to play in his entire rookie year. Simms appeared as the third-string quarterback in 2004 but quickly advanced to backup quarterback after Brian Griese failed to show his best game.

In September 2004, he competed against the Seattle Seahawks and went 21-32 with an interception and 175 yards. He appeared in the game against the New Orleans Saints in October 2004. He was benched for three weeks after going 5-8 for 75 yards due to his shoulder injury. In 2005, he got his first start against the San Francisco 49ers and performed decent in the game, where he went 21-34 for 264 yards.
